iContact Review – Is iContact The Best Autoresponder?

icontact-logo If you search Google for almost any keywords related to iContact review,  “autoresponders” or “email follow up”, you’ll see tons of paid ads promoting iContact autoresponders. In fact, you’ve probably read one too many polished, positive iContact reviews.

But is iContact really that good, or are they just extremely good at marketing?

In this iContact review, I’ll try to be as honest as possible about iContact, and how it compares to other alternatives like Aweber or GetResponse.

iContact Review – Pros and Cons

Positive iContact Review

  • Definitely more affordable than other hosted email auto responder services (see pricing comparison below)
  • iContact is easy to use and works great as an autoresponder, without all the bells and whistles
  • Great user interface, which even newbie marketers can understand without documentation
  • Allows you to publish a “Profile” page which your potential subscribers can view – helps you build credibility
  • Good email tracking and analytics feature, as well as list segmentation, allows you to reach any particular subscriber / group of subscribers
  • Supports integration with blogs / RSS feed (in the version we tried for this iContact review)
  • Online surveys feature included at no extra cost (in the version we tried for this iContact review)
  • Store your images in iContact’s image library (5Mb), and use them directly in your emails
  • Additional premium services and also your own account manager – great for SMEs or larger organizations

Negative iContact Review

  • Although it has all the basic features, most of the advanced features they are not as robust as the alternatives
  • You get email / phone / live chat support, but lacks in additional “Value added” support like videos and live training

iContact Review – Plans and Pricing

Similar to other hosted autoresponder services, iContact also has a tiered pricing plan according to the number of email subscribers in your account. The only difference is that it has more tiers , which makes it a bit difficult to compare with other autoresponders.

You can signup for a free trial right away to see if iContact is for you. Then, you pay about $9 for your initial 250 subscribers, and the monthly cost slowly increases as your contacts double in size. If you have 10,000 subscribers the cost is more or less $62.90 a month.

In terms of pricing alone, it’s cheaper than Aweber and GetResponse. Here’s a side-by-side iContact review in terms oof pricing only, which uses the iContact pricing tiers as a base:

The iContact pricing above is the actual monthly rate. if you pay for one year in advance you get an additional 10% discount

You can clearly see that iContact is the cheapest solution no matter what your list size is. If cost is an important consideration (when is it not?) then you’ll definitely want to go with iContact.

Aweber and GetResponse don’t reveal how much it costs if you have more than 25,000 subscribers. You’ll need to contact them to get a quote, which usually means it’s going to cost you a bomb.

    The problem with iContact is that they say you get 500 or whatever unique subscribers with your payment plan BUT if you add lists and add your original subscribers to the lists they count that subscriber TWICE. For example if you have a master list of 100 and put each of those SAME 100 subscribers into additional lists iContact contacts them as 200 subscribers. That means you will use your usage rather quickly and have to upgrade to the next level before actually reaching the maximum number of subscribers allowed. I saved a Chat message from iContact that states 500 UNIQUE subscribers are allowed with the $10 plan. THIS IS NOT TRUE!

    This is the case not only with iContact, but also Aweber, Getresponse and almost all other email marketing solutions.

    Export my database clients (that I have for years!!) to icontact – sent 1 email. Result: all yahoo emails icontact sent them to DO NOT CONTACT and NEED RESUBSMISSION … Pending Confirmation to be more exact … And it’s half of my list (many thousands …)
    I have sent email to them like they said and verified this – few answered and some emails I have testedd entered to spam (they said because of few text).
    After that – anything I have asked – 0 support !! but the money entered in their accounts for many months and still no answer to my request to let me use my yahoo emails ….
    I have sent an email to send me at least my database saved in their platform and they haven’t yet answer !!
    This is no way to treat a client who puts in your pocket thousands of usd !
    I will post this non-stop until they will understand that this is not a way to treat a client who is trying to resolve his needs calmly and you don’t care !
